After nearly 18 years with AT&T, working in the same office building, and surrounded by many of the same people, today is my last day.

What a long, strange trip it's been.

Career 2.0

1 min read

In case you hadn't heard by now, I've decided to leave AT&T. After nearly 18 years with the company, July 30 will be my last day.

I have my reasons for leaving, and I may go into them once I am no longer bound by the company's Social Media policy, but for the time being, I'll have to remain mum about it (unless you know me in meatspace, in which case, contact me elsewhere for details).

Due to the (relatively) generous severance and benefits package I'll be receiving, I shouldn't have to scramble to find a replacement job career too quickly. As such, I plan on taking a couple of weeks' "sabbatical" during which I can spend some quality time with my family and (hopefully) get some of my side projects finished.

All that to say: When I woke up this morning, I was struck by how surreal it is that, after nearly 18 years working for the same company, at the same location, and seeing many of the same people every day, I only have a week left.

Wound up going 2-0 in thanks to the timely intervention of Heartless Hidetsugu. Even though the deck is good at winning (3-1 since I first built it, if I'm not mistaken), it just isn't much fun to play, so I'm probably going to retire it (for now).

And now... To bed!

My dragons won the first round of , after I popped Sarkhan's super ability and brought in Every. Dragon. In. The. Deck.

that thinks the word "installable" is spelled incorrectly, and suggests "uninstallable" as a replacement. 😕

Interesting - when I push a photo post from to my instance (via the ), only the title comes with it.

Looks like I'll have to either alter the plugin to show the rest of the post (the code's on GitHub, so maybe), or manually post my photos to both locations (which will be harder to remember than to actually do).

The $6000 Dog

Zaphod just got home from the vet after having TPLO surgery yesterday. $3000 to fix his right leg, and just a couple of years after we had to do the same for his left one.

He may not be Lee Majors, but he is our $6000 dog.

@karyl@cybre.space I always liked , even though I didn't get to mess with it much before it was gone.

It always struck me as being a good idea at the wrong time.
